Our last dish from Caucasian cuisine for actually a drink and not a recipe. Kwas is a very popular drink which is made by the fermentation of bread. Unfortunately it is rather hard to make, especially if you don’t have the right ingredients. My mum would say “German bread is just too different”.

The word ‘квас’ was first mentioned in the year 989! That’s a looooong time ago! It can contain up to 1% of alcohol and the name basically means ‘sour drink’ which makes sense, considering its taste. You might compare it to root beer but it is less sweet and has a hint of citrus, making it more refreshing than root beer.
Making kwas is a little bit harder so I won’t bother you with a recipe here (also because I don’t have one, anyways) but I am letting you know what if you want to try it, you can usually find it in a Russian grocery store, grocery stores that have special international sectors or on amazon:
